This is a story about Now V2 in 2019. The dashboard and CLI instructions describe that version of the platform.
Several times I’ve found myself focusing too much on deployments, orchestration, containers, and delivery; that was far from the purpose of the project. If you are at an early stage of a project, it’s easy to lose momentum by spending too much time outside its main scope. Everything around you should help you accomplish every single milestone. That matters whether you’re building a tiny POC or working toward an MVP.
As I mentioned in earlier posts, I’m a pretty curious person and from time to time I jump between projects. I usually build tiny POCs and I want them to be online and fully functional as soon as possible. With time I started to surround myself with tools to not drop projects.
In 2016, when I was exploring the benefits of React and JSX, I built a super simple tool to understand transpiling, the work of presets, and also to use them in my talks and courses. JSX Live Compiler
I remember working on it 2 hours, tops? And at that time Now was super convenient. Just typing now in the console got the job done. Boom. My project was up and running. (And I was ready to move to my next project.)
A couple of months ago I found out that Zeit was releasing Now 2.0 and I added Upgrade repos to now V2 to my todo list thinking that it would take me a lot of time to do it. I was wrong.
I went to my Now Dashboard and set my Platform Version to 2.0 (Latest) . Then I did a re-deploy by typing now in my terminal and that was it.
Yes. That’s everything I had to do. In the two HTTP requests shown below, elapsed time went from 1.267 seconds to 0.420 seconds: about 66.85% less time. These are individual observations, not a controlled benchmark.
Don’t you just love tools that make your life easier? I do.
See you, B
EDIT: another request completed in 0.171 seconds. 😍
